TOPIC: Strings representation in the TCI

Strings representation in the TCI 22 Jul 2010 09:35 #7692

Hi all,

this should be reported as a CR, but I prefer sharing this here first
because there are some compatibility implications.

The TCI specification states that string values exchanged through the
interface shall be represented « as defined in TTCN-3 ». Then some
sample values are enumerated but they are in contradiction with this
statement.

Here is the case of octetstring :

TString getString() Returns the textual representation of this
OctetstringValue, as
defined in TTCN-3. E.g. the
textual representation of 0xCAFFEE is
"CAFFEE"O. The textual
representation of the empty TTCN-3
octetstring is ""O, while its
length is zero.

To the best of my knowledge the textual representation of 0xCAFFEE in
TTCN-3 is 'CAFFEE'O and the empty string is ''O.

All the tools we have been using so far in our lab (3 tools) use the
single-quote notation, but recently we have used another tool that uses
the double-quote notation and we are facing some interoperability issues.

It seems to me that the single-quote notation is more prevalent. But
before submitting the CR, I would like to raise the question to the
community.

Dear Anthony,

The correct values should be 'CAFEE'O. Same as for hex- and bitstrings.

Kind regards,

I totally agree, the double quotes seem to be a typo in the standard.
