TOPIC: Additions to TTCN-3

Additions to TTCN-3 21 Nov 2003 15:02 #6581

Hi,

I see that various ideas for extending TTCN-3 are being proposed on this
list. I welcome this debate and would like to bring to your attention
that we (ETSI) have obtained funding of several man-months to continue
the maintenance of TTCN-3 in 2004. This could include possible
extensions/additions to the language. The issue of tailoring TTCN-3 for
performance testing is high on our agenda but we are, of course, open to
suggestions from the TTCN-3 community. Type parameterisation, for
example, was considered when we started defining the language but got
removed for the sake of simplicity. Maybe the time is right to
reconsider this decision. I would see the way forward for this and other
aspects, such as component type inheritance or a C interface, as
starting with a debate on this list. If sufficient interest is generated
then we could consider compiling a wish list of the more 'popular'
ideas. However, I stress that time and resources are limited so only
additions that appear to have broad support and which really do enhance
TTCN-3 (without over complication) will be considered for the final cut.

By the way, we will be issuing a complete mock-up of the TTCN-3 core
language at the end of December which will reflect all the agreed CRs up
to that date.

Regards,
Anthony Wiles
