Hi 14 Nov 2005 08:43 #6897

Hi,

TTCN stands for Tree and Tabular combined notation. It has been
developed by ISO as part of the conformance testing methodology and
framework for open system interconnection (OSI) protocol implementation.

Now my question is for which protocol testing you want to use TTCN?

Regards,

Anjana

Hello,

You have been reading the older specification of TTCN
from ISO 9646. Nowdays TTCN (as in TTCN-3) is defined
as Test and Test Control Notation (Version 3).
Your definition of TTCN (TTCN-2) is from ISO 9646-3 or from ITU-T X.292.

> Now my question is for which protocol testing you want to use TTCN?

Nowdays you would like to use TTCN (or TTCN-2 as it was also
called) for protocol conformance testing of protocols
for which 3GPP, ETSI or ATM Forum test suite exists
(ISDN, SS7, ATM, V5, TETRA, DECT, GSM, 3G, etc.).
Especially 3G and GSM test suites are still developed using
TTCN (TTCN-2).

If you meant TTCN-3, then it applies a variety of testing purposes.
Usually it is some type of functional testing.

Best regards,
Vesa-Matti Puro

Hi 15 Nov 2005 05:40 #6899

Wow :)

I am amazed that on a _TTCN-3_ mailing list there is still people who think of TTCN as being TTCN-2 ...

Maybe also worthwile to point out are the achievements with TTCN-3 outside of telecom domain - see www.tt-medal.org
That web site also contains a collection of all publically available courses on TTCN-3.

More info on TTCN-3 can also be found at www.ttcn-3.org
