TOPIC: Toward a 'testing' Foundation ?

Toward a 'testing' Foundation ? 09 Jan 2007 15:18 #6991

Dear TTCN community,

Since I discovered TTCN-3, 2 years ago within the Go4IT project,
I have perceived the numerous fields were this language could be
applied.

Some of these applications are well identified today, others
are less so but in any case, I saw a vocation to go on improving this
language together with tools and methodologies and further promote its
adoption throughout the world.

But willing to do things ... rapidly raises some questions :
with which resources ? Will it be sustainable ?

To my knowledge, the TTCN community today doesn't have any
associated juridical or financial structure for one to be able to
gather and redistribute financial resources for TTCN development, based
on a roadmap it would have defined.

Many kind of juridical structures exist and some are quite
interesting when it comes to 'research' financing by leveraging on
private money with public sources. As an example a Research foundation
built under French Law, is allowed to multiply up to a factor of 5
your private investment by cumulating tax-credits with subsidies. Such
types of structures also exist in other countries. In such structures,
the money belongs to the structure and not to the donors. The structure
has the ability and the power to use its money as it feels necessary.

TTCN alone may be a too limited scope for such an action and we
could imagine building something around the 'Unified Testing'
problematic.

I identified a FP7 call where we could propose a small project
aimed at
- Building a roadmap for 'unified testing'
- Identifying and preparing the most appropriate
juridical/financial structure.

Such an approach would need to be widely accepted and
industrials from many sectors should be represented within the project
in order for it to be worthwhile

I would be very interested to have your comments on this idea,
both positive and negative feedback is welcome.

If enough interest is shown, I could invest some time in
building a proposal.

Look forward to hearing from you,
Sincerely,
Franck
