TOPIC: Update on TTCN-3 standardization

Update on TTCN-3 standardization 04 Apr 2007 08:57 #7073

Hi all,

about two weeks ago there has been the latest MTS meeting at ETSI. I
just wanted to summarize some of the major TTCN-3 related news from this
meeting.
Note that minutes, presentations and documents presented and discussed
at this meeting can be accessed via
webapp.etsi.org/MeetingCalendar/MeetingDetails.asp?mid=11334 (or
by selecting on the ETSI portal pages "MTS" -> "MTS#44" meeting).

For those of you not aware of MTS. MTS is the ETSI technical committee
that is responsible (among other things) for handling TTCN-3 standards.

1. 3GPP has now decided to extend use of TTCN-3 in future UE test case
development, i.e., RAN LTS/SAE test suites
- the presentation by 3GPP MCC presented a number of tool issues that
they feel need to be addressed
- MTS decided to take more action on identification and resolution of
grey areas in the standard which lead in practice to TTCN-3 tool
incompatibilities
2. The so far unpublished part 7 (ASN.1), 9 (XML) and 10 (documentation
tags) of the TTCN-3 standards edition 3.2.1 will be avaiable as final
drafts by end of May.
- On part 10 there will be a rapporteurs meeting scheduled this month
to discuss the latest update (meeting will be announced on this list).
- Part 11 (C mapping) is planned to be released end of this year.
3. Updates to TTCN-3 web site, TTCN-3 change request handling, and t3doc
were discussed
4. PTCC pointed out major backward compatibility issue of the standard
related to str2oct and oct2str function in edition 3.2.1 (compared to
all earlier editions)
- operation of these predefined functions has been changed - this has
resulted to test execution problems in ETSI TISPAN STF!
- it has been stated that it would be appreciated if tools warn users
of the changed operation of these predefined functions when supporting
edition 3.2.1
of the core language!
5. MTS has put in a request for a STF in 2H of this year to address bugs
reported in change request tool, e.g., point 4.
6. TENTATIVELY a new revision (edition 3.3.1) of the TTCN-3 standards
(including only bug fixes) has been planned for end of this year and
an edition 4.1.1 (including new features) for end of 2008.

Again - for more details follow the above link.

Salut,
stephan
