At the TTCN-3 user conference we presented T3Open (
www.t3open.org ) as an initiative to develop open source TTCN-3 software. As not all interested persons could participate at the user conference, we would like to take up the discussion in a telco this week. The date of the telco and the access details had been distributed before, you can find them below. Please give us a short notice whether you would like to participate, just to make sure that we reserved enough phone lines.
As this telco is an informal meeting, we suggest to give it some structure by focussing in each telco on one specific topic.
As a tentative agenda we propose:
Short introductory round: Who you are and what is your interest in open source TTCN-3 software.
Topic of the day: open source license models, which do you prefer and why.
AOB: feedback, next meeting (mid September?) , next topic.
We will provide minutes to the telco in the T3Open wiki.

Dear all,
Last summer there have been discussions about open source tools for TTCN-3, but unfortunately did not result in much joint action. Still, we think that the availability of open source tools for TTCN-3 would be beneficial to increase interest in TTCN-3 and to build up a community. Therefore we have taken initiative to bring together those persons interested in open source TTCN-3 software.
We would like to start with 3 small steps:
- At the TTCN-3 user conference we will give a short presentation (In the session parallel to the TTCN-3 certificate exam, Thursday, May 31st, starting 17:15). There we will directly explain the idea and there would be the possibility for immediate feedback.
- At June 14th, 15:00-16:00 german time, we would like to invite you to a telephone conference to follow up discussions at the TTCN-3 user conference. Also, persons who could not attend the TTCN-3 user conference would have the possibility to participate in the discussions. If there is enough interest, we would organize such telephone conferences every 2 or 3 months. Telco details can be found below.
- We have set up a Wiki (
www.t3open.org) that can be used to exchange information. This Wiki is populated already with some content, please feel free to add further content.
What are we actually looking for? We would like to provide a means
- for developers of open source TTCN-3 tools to see which parts of a tool set is already available and which ones are existing already. Hopefully this will allow to create TTCN-3 tool sets in a quicker way.
- for end users to have one single place where they could start looking for available tools, test suites, etc.
ETSI/PTCC is aware of these proposals and obviously this will continue in collaboration with ETSI/PTCC.
