TOPIC: Approval of TTCN-3 revision 2

Approval of TTCN-3 revision 2 31 Oct 2001 09:30 #6025

Dear TTCN-3 experts and MTSsupport,

The original schedule for STF187 to complete the revision of the TTCN-3
standard was set for December 31st 2001. However, at MTS#33 last week it was
decided that in order to synchronise publication with the ITU-T next year it
would be desirable to have MTS approval of the revisions of ES 201 873-1,2
and 4 by the end of November. These documents are thus now available on the
MTS server for TB approval (in the zip archive ES201873v210.zip):

docbox.etsi.org/tech-org/mts/Document/mt...l/TTCN3/ES201873v210
.zip

IMPORTANT: The approval period closes 30th November 2001. Members submitting
technical comments shall also include full solutions.

It will also be possible to download this zip archive from the PTCC website
from Monday 5th November:

www.etsi.org/ptcc/downloads/TTCN3-Draft.zip

In order to accommodate this sudden and tight deadline STF187 completed all
technical revisions to the standard as of 26.10.2001. I would like to extend
my thanks to Jens and Colin who worked extremely hard those last two weeks
in order to achieve this. I would also like to thank Thomas Wernitz of
DaVinci Communications for his excellent editing task on the tabular format.
Finally, thanks to all of you who contributed to the lively discussions on
the TTCN-3 mailing list.

However, some editing work still remains. This will be done in parallel with
the approval process. This will not involve technical changes and will
include:

a) Final proof reading for consistency on the use of English, style, layout,
pagebreaks, spelling and application of ETSI guidelines.

b) Update/correct all internal references, numbering of figures and tables
etc.

c) Insertion of the BNF currently in doc. 4) above into Annex A of the Core
Language. This takes an hour or so of effort and will not be done until
changes (if any) to the BNF that may be raised as a result of the approval
process are finally incorporated into 4). This procedure does not alter the
meaning of the BNF in any way, it is purely editorial.

Please note that this revision of TTCN-3 was necessary to take into account
the very useful feedback obtained from the initial implementations of TTCN-3
tools and compilers as well as from first users. We are now past that stage
and in order to ensure long-term stability of the language in the future I
have requested that MTS impose a formal Change Request procedure for TTCN-3.
This procedure will be web based and should be in operation early next year.
I will keep you informed of the process as it develops. For more information
please see MTS#33 TD007.

Best regards

Anthony Wiles
Colin Willcock
Jens Grabowski

P.S. Technical work on ES 201 873-3 TTCN-3 Graphical Presentation Format is
expected to be completed by the end of this year. Ina Schieferdecker will
have more info. on that.
